Human as an entity in organisations

Marek Motyka Justyna Pawlak

(eds.)
2012

The aim of the publication is to present various aspects of human subjectivity in organisations. The authors outline the challenges of human functioning in complex socio-organisational structures and, at the same time, the need to function within two different orders: one belonging to the world of things and the other belonging to the world of basic human needs and values. Issues of trust, control, professional relationships and managerial decisions made in the context of organisational cooperation, as well as proactive behaviour, professional development and interpersonal communication training are addressed. The problem of values accompanying employees’ professional activities is also reflected upon.

Self-creation. A psychological analysis of the phenomenon and its significance for human development

Justyna Pawlak
2009

The present work is a theoretical study relating to issues derived from the psychology of personality and the psychology of human development, in which the Author, based on selected psychological and philosophical views, analysed the phenomenon of self-creation, its scope, developmental context, necessary motivation and conditions. This issue is part of the climate of contemporary, individualistic and expressivist culture, which, on the one hand, emphasises those human traits that predestinate them to self-creative behaviour, while on the other hand, it is characterised by the chaos of patterns, promotion of rapid change and attachment to consumer goods, which in turn hinders the process of self-creation.

Determinants of human performance in organisations. The pro-social aspect

Małgorzata Adamska-Chudzińska

2012

The thesis is a theoretical and empirical study of the factors determining the level of professional efficiency of a person in an organisation, with particular emphasis on the pro-social dimension of the organisation’s functioning. Considering the shift in perception of an employee as a person with unique professional opportunities and the role of the sense of subjectivity in the effective use of these opportunities for the benefit of the organisation, the author draws attention to the importance of psychosocial determinants of efficient professional performance. The work is mainly based on the science of people management, but knowledge from psychology in the field of effective human functioning and from social psychology and sociology in the field of the social dimension of such functioning and its consequences has also been widely used.

Mentoring in women’s management careers

Małgorzata Adamska-Chudzińska

Klaudia Blachnicka

2025

Despite the multifaceted business benefits of women in management positions, there is still a clear underrepresentation of women in management. The authors of the presented monograph have shown that the participation of female managers in a mentoring relationship has the potential to stimulate multifaceted career development. Properly implemented mentoring creates opportunities to eliminate organisational and individual barriers hindering the advancement of careers, which are rooted in stigmatising stereotypes and culturally imposed gender roles. In the book, mentoring is presented in a broader sense, as a mentor’s various activities classified as professional and psychosocial support. The book also presents the results of research on the relationship between mentoring and women’s managerial careers, taking into account the aspect of managers’ self-awareness in the professional sphere and the moderating role of the dominance of one gender in the professional environment.

Work engagement and eployee well-being. Psychosocial support to build engaged human capital

 (Eds.) Małgorzata Adamska-Chudzińska, Justyna Pawlak

2025

Work Engagement and Employee Well-being highlights the vital role of psychosocial support in building and stimulating work engagement. It is a response to the growing phenomenon of weakened employee attachment and engagement instability. The authors underscore the importance of creating a friendly work environment, which accommodates a variety of employee needs and elicits positive emotions, thus fostering the well-being and complete engagement of employees. An in-depth literature review and empirical research conducted using combined qualitative and quantitative methods enabled the authors to present the issue from a wide range of theoretical perspectives. With a model acknowledging the multifaceted nature of work engagement and its association with well-being, the book introduces a selection of psychosocial means to enhance it. The analysis focuses on both systemic measures, that is, promoting a supportive organizational culture and protecting work–life balance, as well as a more individualized approach that not only facilitates the recognition and respect of employee needs but also helps cultivate their development. The book places emphasis on a transformational leadership style and a high level of emotional intelligence among managers, particularly their empathy. Further attention was paid to the various ways to support specific employee groups, such as remote workers and neurodivergent members of the workforce.
